Solo flyer...

...for a month long holiday in South Africa

(A very old post now, that has finally been published!)

A trip to SA for Easter had been on the cards for a long time... unfortunately however since Mark had just resigned from his current job at United Arab Bank and accepted a new one with Standard Chartered, it meant he was unable to take leave during his notice period....leaving Hudson and I to head to SA by ourselves for a lovely month long holiday.

Luckily for me the flight was quite empty, giving us 3 seats all to ourselves, as well as a bassinet...and as if that wasn't good enough, happy little Hudson was a dream child on the long haul flight.

Once in Joburg, we met my mom at the airport who had flown up from PE to join us for the Easter weekend with Claire, Grant and the girls (who were unfortunately asleep when we arrived, so they had to wait until morning to meet their new little cousin) before heading off for their last day of term at school.  When school came out, we all headed off to their house at the Bronkorspruit dam where we would spend the Easter weekend together for Hudson's first Easter.

The weather was fantastic (which makes a change) for the long weekend, for lazy days outside on the deck overlooking the dam and even a ride on their boat (another first for Hudson), whilst the girls tubed and skied.

The Easter Bunny made a trip out to the dam and as always the girls were spoilt rotten with Easter eggs (maybe next year Hudson might get to enjoy one). Whilst we were spoilt with Claire's fantastic cooking and a visit from Great Uncle Os.

With the Easter weekend over already, it was time to say good-bye and head to Port Elizabeth with my mom.  Where Hudson met his Grandpa and Felicity for the first time, as well as his Great-Granny!  Lots of lunches and teas, did the waistline no good, but it was great to catch up with the family and some other friendly faces...Shona, Stephanie and Jackie and not to mention some Great Aunts and Uncles...Chris, Glynice, Jane and Clive, Jenny and Amber.

Shona and I also had a night out on the town, for some girly QT whilst Granny babysit!  Heading to good old faithful Barney's at the beachfront and the new (but not so new) Bridge Street Brewery.

And again, it wasn't long before it was time to move on... heading this time to East London for yet some more family for the little guy to meet... Granddad, Uncle Ian and Aunty Helen, along with little cousin James all for the first time and of course to see Grandma again.

As well as some special friends and their cute little munchkins.

Then it was time to head back to Joburg for the last week of holiday.  The girls were now on holiday, and for the most part the weather was freezing, which meant a number of trips to the shops, and some crafty activities to keep us all entertained.  On a good weather day we headed to the Irene Dairy farm, where Hudson was introduced to his first cows, calves, chickens, roosters and pigs!

Then it was time for the lovely month long holiday to come to an end and for us to head back to the dessert.... and time to see Dad again.
